Object Description

A white star line interest unique collection comprising of a Liverpool Shipwreck & Humane Society certificate for bravery and a cased accompanying silver medal awarded to James Christopher Corrigan, Senior Second Engineer on the SS Adriatic. The ship had suffered from a gas explosion in one of the forward cargo holds while crossing the Atlantic which resulted in five crew being killed and further three being wounded. Several ships were placed on standby, however, the crew got control of the fire and the Adriatic continued on its journey. As a result, James Christopher Corrigan also received the King George V ‘Board of Trade Medal for Gallantry in saving lives at Sea’ silver medal which is included in its original case together with ‘The Society for the Protection of Life from Fire’ silver medal also boxed. All the medals have engraved name and details around the rims and come complete with pins and ribbons attached in original boxes. The framed certificate accompanying the medals is exquisitely decorated and fully detailed in respect of the act of bravery by James Christopher Corrigan. The collection comes complete with a silver 1914-1918 war medal also presented to James C. Corrigan and inscribed around the edge.

Object Condition

Frame worn but all in good condition with light age wear.
