Object Description
Art Nouveau James MacIntyre & Co. Florian Ware three-handled flared loving cup decorated with tube lined floral designs by William Moorcroft and dating from around 1900. William Moorcroft started out as a designer before becoming director of the art pottery department at James MacIntyre & Co at Burslem in Staffordshire. His floral designs were often compared to the work of William Morris and other Arts & Crafts designers and this earthenware three handled cup is an exceptional example of that work. Decorated with finely detailed trailing floral blooms in green, yellow and blue on a cream-coloured ground with decorated borders above and below and with floral designs applied around the inside rim of the cup. The cup has three blue painted and glazed handles and has printed MacIntyre marks to the base along with a green painted signature for William Moorcroft.
