Object Description
Chinese early 18th century porcelain famille rose, c1730, pair of tea caddies made during the reign of the Emperor Yongzheng at the kilns at Jingdezhen for export to Europe. Rare decoration and rare to have a pair and with original lids.
Painted to the outside to show a scene on each of them although the scene is different it is a continuation of the same theme. Often known as the Romantic Garden scene it owes much to the story of the Romance of the Western Chamber.
Around the base is a pierced frieze style decoration of a garland of Chinese coins.
The enamelling on both is in excellent condition and both are perfect
rare subject matter on tea poys or tea caddies.
