Of nautical interest. A charming antique silver mounted cowrie shell snuff box with flush hinged cover, decorated with bright cut engraving and engraved dedication ” P. Ferguson 1856″. Particularly nice is the unusual carved shell decoration featuring a sailing ship with full rigging and the Forget Me Not inscription.
Length 8cm. Width 5.8cm. Height 4cm.
The silver is unmarked as is common with these boxes.
Probably Scottish.

Inscription. “Write to me, Forget me not, The oceans may between us roll, Far distant be our lot, And should we never meet again, Do thou forget me not, P. Ferguson”
