A mid/late 17th century oak wood carving of The Madonna & Child.
This carving depicts The Virgin Mary, dressed in traditional robes, holding the baby Jesus.
The word ‘Madonna’ means ‘My lady’ in Italian and such figures are part of the Roman Catholic tradition in many parts of the World.
This figure has been carved from oak, it has an old repair to the shoulder of the Madonna due to shrinkage of the wood.
There are also splits, also caused from shrinkage of the wood and old evidence of woodworm.
This piece is in good condition for age and can go straight into a home or private collection.
