Object Description
A 17th century, later coloured and framed, map of “The Bishoprick and Citie of Durham” by John Speed.
The map would have originally been one of many in a book, hence the visible crease down the centre.
John Speed had published the book “The Theatre of the Empire of Great Britain” around 1612, with the maps engraved in Holland by Jodocus Hondius who was the top engraved of the period.
The map is in very good condition, held in a 20th century frame. (Circa 1620)
