Object Description
A Rare 18th Century Mahogany Chippendale Period China
Display Cabinet Having Two Adjustable Shelves Enclosed
Within Astragal Glazed Doors, Retaining Original 18th Century
Glazing, Above Original Square Tapering Leg Stand With
Two Frieze Drawers Retaining Original Brass Handles
( A charming 18th century piece of furniture with real elegance. It
is very unusual to find an item like this still housed on its original stand
as the majority of the time legs would have been broken/snapped
and the entire stand therefore discarded. The fact that most of,
if not all, of the glazing is original as well is a wonderful feature with
some of the pieces of glass displaying charming natural flaws like bubbles
and kinks that you just don’t find in modern replacement glass. All in all
this is an excellent quality piece of furniture, in excellent condition, its
not to large and would be brilliant for displaying all manner of items, or
even just to be used as a bookcase. Its not often you find any kind of
bookcase, or cabinet, from the 18th century with this kind of simplicity and
elegance which is still in such great relative condition.)
