Object Description

An 18th century Louis XV carved walnut settee ‘canapé en corbeille’ in the manner of Pierre Nogaret (1718 – August 23, 1771). The padded back with a cresting centred by a flower carved spray, above padded armrest and a loose cushion seat, covered in a rose silk Damask fabric, above a floral spray-carved shaped apron, on three front and two rear cabriole legs, the whole carved with floral motifs. The carving presents elegance and movement in a balanced vivid manner with detailed flower carving as is so characteristic of Nogaret’s work and style.
