Object Description
Louis XV marquetry mechanical table or ‘table liseuse’, in the manner of Léonard Boudin (1735-1804), veneered in tulipwood and other exotic woods, in part stained, on a carcase of oak and pine.
The serpentine-sided rectangular top with sightly outset rounded corners, veneered to form a cartouche enclosing a delicate floral marquetry panel with ribbon-tied spring and summer flowers flanked by shaped panels of trellis parquetry enclosing quatrefoils. The front, sides and back finely veneered with a diamond parquetry, on square sectioned cabriole legs with gilt bronze sabots.
The top of this table can be lifted up and the drawer pulls out to reveal hidden compartments: the central section with an adjustable mirror flanked by hinged compartments.
