Object Description

An Extremely Charming And Very Good Quality George II Period Mahogany Chest, Retaining Rich, Untouched Colour And Patina Throughout, Having Well Figured Mahogany Top Over Two Short And Three Long Drawers, With Replacement Brass Handles Original Key Escutcheons, Raised On Original Shaped Bracket Feet.

This beautiful early 18th century chest of drawers is earlier in date than the vast majority you will find on the market and boasts exceptional quality in both the timbers used and the overall construction. There was much less concern over the amount of timbers available during the first half of the 18th century and cabinet makers tended not to think twice about using the absolute best timbers which they had to hand.

It has also managed to build up a quite wonderful untouched colour and patina surface over the 300 years or so of its existence and this is something which is basically impossible to recreate.

Some of the brasswear is original, as are the feet and that is quite the achievement after all those years in our honest opinion.

The dimensions and proprtions are great. A good small size which means it will fit into a whole variety of different spots around the home, whilst also being large enough to be genuinely functional. It is also worth noting that it is particularly low, which lends itself to perhaps being used alongside a bed as well as all the other usual spots for a chest of drawers.

As with all items which we offer for sale it has been inspected by our highly skilled, trained antique furniture restorers before being offered for sale and received a natural wax polish to ensure that it is ready for immediate placement within the home or office.
