Object Description

A Charming 18th Century George III Period Mahogany Drop Leaf Occasional Table, Of Rectangular Form, Having Superbly Figured Top Retaining Exceptional Colour And Patina Throughout, Over One Frieze Drawer And Elegant Turned Supports Forming Rare Spider Leg Action.

This beautiful 18th century table is constructed from superb mahogany timbers, which have clearly been cherished and looked after over the years, resulting in an absolutely fabulous colour & patina.

The term spider leg action of course refers to the turned upright supports, of which there are eight, like a spider, hence the name. These asre all extremely nicely turned and are very, very elegant with breaks or repairs to speak of, which is pretty unusual.

This design of 18th century table was copied a lot during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, so it is unusual to find a genuine 18th century example, especially in the kind of condition that this one is.

Aside from being very beautiful, this table is of course incredibly functional. With the drop flap sides, it can be easily tucked away into a small space, pretty much anywhere around the home when not in use, to be brought out and opened up as and when required. There is also of course the versatility of being able to use it with just one flap up.

Ass with all items we offer for sale this table has been inspected by our trained traditional antique furniture restorers and received a natural wax polish to ensure it is in tip top condition before being offered for sale.
