Object Description

A very good early 18th. century set of engravings of important historical characters engraved by Jacobus Houbraken in Amsterdam and G.Vertue and printed in London between 1738 and 1742 comprising:

George Lord Digby, Earl of Bristol from the original by Ant. Van Dyck, engraved in Amsterdam by Houbraken and printed in London by I & P Knapton in 1738.

Usher Archbishop of Armagh from the original painting by Sir Peter Lely and engraved by G Vertue in 1738.

Lieutenant General Fleetwood from the original painting by Walker, , engraved in Amsterdam by Houbraken in 1740 and printed in London by I & P Knapton in 1740.

James Earl of Morton 1581 , engraved in Amsterdam by Houbraken in 1741 and printed in London by I & P Knapton in 1741.

George Buchanan from the original painting by Pourbus , engraved in Amsterdam by Houbraken in 1741and printed in London by I & P Knapton in 1742.

Anth. Ashley Cooper Earl of Shaftesbury from the original painting by Sir Peter Lely and engraved by Houbraken in Amsterdam in about 1740.
