Object Description

An 18th Century tent stitch silkwork embroidery of a shepherd with his flock of sheep. The piece is worked in tent stitch, using silk threads. Colours blue, green, silver, brown and pink. Subject depicts a shepherd holding his crook and a pipe, with sheep around him. A dog and trees in the background. Framed in an old, patterned frame with rippled, old glass. Mounting: The embroidery is lightly taped to the cardboard surround. Frame backed with card, then wood and sealed with tape.. Dimensions exclude the frame and slip.

Object Condition

Good. No holesj or staining. Slight stitch loss to one motif. Colours are faded, but still well defined. Frame with some wear and retouching.
