A rare example of a frosted glass askos, a 19th century version of an ancient Greek oil serving vessel of a size suitable to be used for serving wine. The mount which is made of silver coloured metal shows a hippocampus and the handle is formed as twisted vine leaves and grapes. Probably made in England about 1870.
