Object Description

A rare example of a frosted glass askos, a 19th century version of an ancient Greek oil serving vessel of a size suitable to be used for serving wine. The mount which is made of silver coloured metal shows a hippocampus and the handle is formed as twisted vine leaves and grapes. Probably made in England about 1870.

Object Condition

There are some wear marks immediately below where the lid is fitted but the general condition is good and the piece is attractive.
