Object Description
A Very Good Quality And Extremely Attractive Victorian Late 19th Century Burr Walnut Occasional Table, Commonly Known As A Book Table, Having Superbly Figured Circular Top Over Revolving Spindle Galleried Tier, With Turned Central Column, Raised On Attractive Downswept Tripod Legs
This style of revolving book table perfectly encapsulates the Victorian desire to combine elegance with practicality. The lower rack is intended to keep books, newspapers and periodicals neatly organised and readily to hand, whilst the circular top provides a convenient surface for reading, writing or taking refreshments. Today these wonderfully versatile pieces remain just as useful, making ideal lamp tables or occasional tables whilst offering an attractive and unusual solution for displaying books and magazines within the home.
This example is of particularly good quality and well constructed, boasting wonderfully figured burr walnut veneers to the circular top. It also remains in very good condition with no major damage to speak of, which isn’t always the case with these practical pieces of functional furniture which have often been very heavily used throughout their lives.
As with all items which we offer for sale, this piece has been inspected and attended to within our workshops by our highly skilled antique furniture restorers. It has received a natural wax polish and is therefore presented in excellent condition, ready for immediate placement within the home following purchase.
