Object Description

A fine, early mahogany barograph by Cary, the curved rectangular case glazed on all sides, with the original cut glass ink bottle and a side-opening chart drawer set into the stepped base, the week going movement with eight-disc vacuum bellows, signed ‘Cary, 7 Pall Mall, London’. English, circa 1880.

Footnote: The Cary family were justly renowned for their globes but were equally respected for many other precision astrological, meteorological and scientific instruments. They were in business from the late 18th to the early 20th century with premises in and around the Strand and Pall Mall.
