Object Description

A Very Good Quality Mid 19th Century Mahogany Window Seat, Or Hall Bench, Of Elegant Narrow Proportions, Having Well Figured Rectangular Top With Applied Turned Roll To Each End, Raised On Four Fine Turned, Tapering Legs.

Hall benches from the 19th century often follow a fairly typical design, but can be found in an extremely wide variety of sizes, designs, qualities and periods. This example is unusually narrow and there is no doubt that makes it particularly elegant.

Constructed from a good grade of rich mahogany timber it has retained a lovely colour and patina. It also has quite elegant turned rolls to each end, these can often be unattractive and almost a bit of an afterthought, not so with this particular example however.

The legs are particularly elegant. Extremely well turned and with an attractive tapered design.

Absolutely perfect for a huge variety of different spaces around the home, we would suggest underneath the window, along a narrow hallways wall, behind a settee, at the end of a bed and even as a narrow coffee table as just a small cross section of those potential uses.

The condition of the bench is very good, with no obvious aesthetic deficiency, or structural issues of any kind this piece is very much ready to place into immediate service. As with all items which we offer for sale it has been inspected in our workshops by our highly skilled, trained antique furniture restorers and received a natural wax polish in the traditional fashion.
