Much debate is had over the origins of miniature furniture, with many people of the belief that all items were made as apprentice pieces and many other people believing that all items were made as salesmans sample pieces. In reality we believe that miniature furniture in general was produced for a combination of the two purposes mentioned above.

This particular piece was almost certainly made as a travelling salesman’s sample piece, due to it being really rather rare to find a miniature escritoire of any kind, let alone one of this stature and level of detail, right down to the brass decoration at the top of the ebonised columns.

It should also be noted that this lovely piece of antique miniature furniture is in good untouched condition, retaining all of its original brasswear and a superb colour & patina. There are various old marks, scuffs, scrapes and digs, which have now blended into the overall surface of the piece and are certainly not anything aesthetically displeasing to worry about.

This is a really lovely, collectable piece and exactly the sort of item which given a chance we would love to keep in our own collection.
