Object Description

A Very Good Quality 19th Century Oriental Hardwood
Coffee Table Of Unusual Circular Form Having Superbly
Figured Panelled Top Over Attractive Carved Frieze
Raised On Short Legs With Claw And Ball Feet
United By Cross Stretcher

(With many design similarities to the much more regularly
seen Opium Tables, this would have been produced sometime
around the mid-19th century in China specifically for shipping
to the western markets. These days it would perfectly serve
the purpose which very few other types of genuinely antique
furniture can, in that it is the right height to be used as a coffee
table in modern interiors. Also the fact it is constructed
from an extremely dense and hard wearing oriental hardwood
means that it is not likely easily damaged by spilt, or hot, drinks).

Circa 1870

Height – 14in
Width – 29in
Depth – 29in
