Object Description

19th century taxidermy green turtle
English, 19th Century
Height 18cm, width 57cm, depth 41cm

This intriguing green turtle specimen has been carefully preserved using a complex taxidermy technique. All detailing on the turtle’s skin as well as the shell has maintained its complex naturally formed patterns, all in various shades of brown.

The animal features naturalistic glass eyes, the reflections on them adding to the ‘alive’ appearance of the piece. The underside of the turtle reveals the hand-stitched detailing, a necessary part of the taxidermy process that preserves the animal.

This wonderful green turtle would magnificently enhance the collection of anyone interested in taxidermy.
