(A lovely quality table of typical design from the late regency
and early Victorian period. This table is early enough that it retains
the highly desired pull out mechanism for opening and closing it
which is generally regarded as better than the winder mechanism
which was used throughout the rest of the 19th century. The top is
superbly figured and it is lovely that it retains it’s two original leaves
which is most unusual. The functionality of a table like this is
unparalleled as it can be used at a whole variety of different sizes
with no leaves in, one leaf in, or two leaves in. Another advantage
of this design is that there is just the 4 corner legs which allow
maximum flexibility in terms of chair and human leg positioning
without the extra table legs getting in the way. There is no structural
damage to speak of and clearly the table has been well used, but also
well loved over the many years of it’s life so far. What great value for
such a beautiful and functional piece of furniture that is not far
shy of 200 years old!)
