Object Description

No: 11225

A particularly pretty early 19th century Oak Welsh Dresser, the convex and moulded cornice above an oval and diamond blind fret frieze, the shaped corbels flanking three reeded shelves flanked by reeded uprights and with plate beads, the base with three cockbeaded drawers above three central cockbeaded drawers flanked by cupboard doors and flanked by reeded half columns and the whole raised on shaped bracket feet.

Circa 1815 Price: £3,250-00p.

Height: 79”, (201cm) Width: 54½”, (138.5cm) Depth: 19½”, (49.5cm)

Note: It is interesting to see how provincial vernacular furniture followed the fashions of the major cities albeit a few years later. The reeding on this piece is derivative of that which we see on fine Mahogany furniture produced by Gillows of Lancaster from about 1800 onwards. This helps to date this piece to about 1815.

The longer one looks at this Welsh Dresser, the more great details one sees.
