French, Early 20th Century

Elephant: 3cm high x 9cm wide x 1.5cm in depth.
Crafted in the manner of Christofle, an important French maker who often based his work upon cubist designs, particularly those of the Swiss sculptor Edouard Marcel Sandoz, these charming animal knife rests are made in silver-plate. Their style blends elements of Cubism and Art Deco, and are divided into six pairs of animals, lions, doves, monkeys, eagles, elephants, and lobsters. They were made in France in the early twentieth century, and come in a fitted case.
