Object Description
A 16th century and later French renaissance coffer.
The triple paneled front, lavishly carved throughout with birds and figures divided by bulbous acanthus columns. The chest would have originally had heavily carved sides that matched the front and a plank top on loop hinges. The coffer has been heavily restored in the 19th century with both the sides, the back and the lid being replaced and various other restorations.
Overall the coffer is in excellent condition and has a lovely untouched patina.
