Object Description

From our collection of Japanese metalwork from the time of Emperor Meiji, (1868-1912), this fine, naturally modelled Okimono of a Goose with a Silver-patinated Bronze Body, gilded Silver beak and Copper feet. The Bird with Shakudo inlaid eyes complete with gold-rimmed pupils.

The Goose is looking downwards towards a naturtsically carved wood base in the form of a flattened tree-stump.

By Oshimoto Seiji and signed Seiji Kiyoshi. (The artist features in the Khalili Collection – Treasures of Imperial Japan.)
