Object Description
From our collection of antique Japanese ceramics, this delightful Satsuma plate with decoration of figures under the moon. The striking image is cleverly painted in such a way that allows for the vibrancy of the figures Kimono to shine, but yet still look like they are in the dark, only lit by the light of the full Moon above them.
The figures are shown gathering on a boat-house on the shores of a moonlit lake. A mother and her children help load food onto a boat while others enjoy dinner. A further group admire the Moon in the night sky from a raised veranda.
