Object Description
A charming gilt bronze group of Dutch children by D’Aste, showing five children in Dutch dress sliding on snow in their clogs, signed by J.D’ASTE.
Signed/Inscribed: signed by J.D’ASTE.
Guiseppe D’Aste was born in Naples but spent much of his career in Paris. He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Francais from 1905 to 1934. This particular composition was produced in at least two different sizes-a version with just the three figures on the right hand side of our composition also exists.
Most of D’Aste’s sculptures appear to have featured young children and he was a master at capturing the playful spirits of his young subjects as this delightful and decorative piece demonstrates particularly well.
