Object Description
A charming Swiss Black Forest Carved St. Bernard dog relaxed lying down with its head resting and taking a long snooze.
The figure carved from a single piece of Linden wood beautifully sculptured with a naturalistic look complete with glass eyes and collar. The carving encapsulating the true look of a St. Bernard with flowing fur and beautifully carved paws.
Footnote: For many years carved wooden pieces such as this were wrongly thought to have come from the Black Forest in Germany. However, we now know that a wide variety of carvings were actually produced in the Swiss Alps as extensively researched by Arenski, Daniels and Daniels.
