A Celadon Blue Porcelain ‘Phoenix’ Ginger Jar
China, Qing Dynasty, 19th century
With ebonised carved stand and lid
28 cm. / 11 ins high (overall 33 cm. / 13 ins), 20 cm. diameter
Of good scale. The plain ovoid body with lovely pale green translucent celadon ground glaze. Traditionally decorated on one side in cobalt blue with a phoenix perched on a stand surrounded by peony stalks and flowers.
