Object Description
A Decorative Regency S 19th Century English Side Cabinet with Orientalist lacquered Panels
The cabinet veneered primarily in finely figured rosewood and of breakfront outline. There is an inset later decorated marble top and a fine carved moulding running around the top of the piece. The lower section has four carved and gilded pilasters in the form of simulated bamboo columns flanking four japanned panels in simulation of Oriental lacquer.
This cabinet has had the 19th Century lacquered panels added after its original construction , this would have been done to follow the very popular following of the oriental fashion.
The original white marble top would also been re decorated at the same time to follow the colour scheme.
This piece is extremely decorative and, with the endearing appeal of chinoiserie, is as desirable today as it was when it was first made.
