Object Description

The very decorative column, in softwood and well painted to imitate fine scagliola marbles, the cylindrical column on a square section base and once positioned in a country house estate, surviving from the last quarter of the nineteenth century.

Object History

Unknown.

Object Literature

This type of column would be best utilised for busts, urns and statuary, being particularly suited to neoclassical pieces, and metallic or stoneware items.

Shades of Sir John Soane, a good and authentic country house element.

Object Condition

The column is in good overall order, with light scuffing and one chip to the main column, and overall it remains in super decorative condition. The stability is fine and can be used daily to display sculpture. Please refer to the photographs for a full visual reference.
