Object Description

The patinated brass and acid etched frosted glass hanging pendant or ceiling light, in the Adams style, and of neoclassical taste, having a gadrooned circular metal frame with the original hanging fixtures, the bowl etched with swags of flowers and with an acorn finial, the circlet having three applied rams head mounts, the whole surviving from Edwardian period England.

Object History

Unknown.

Object Literature

The motif of the rams head was used by Robert Adam (1728-1792) frequently on his furniture such as candle stands; usually with festoons of drapery and wreaths of flowers caught up with the rams’ heads, all being ornaments characteristic of what was termed the Adams style. This was very much revived in the first decade or so of the twentieth century, this being an example.

In very original and clean condition this is a fabulous little gem with plenty of style.

Object Condition

The light fitting is in very good and original condition. The whole does not suffer from losses, cracks or restoration with a good aged patination to the brass with the finish worn more heavily in some places than others and some small amounts of old dirt and discoloured lacquer. A rare survivor all things considered.
