Object Description

The beautiful mahogany side table of diminutive size, with a single frieze drawer and brass ring handles, raised on elegant legs to pad feet, the whole of exceptional colour and patination and surviving from George II period England.

Object History

Unknown.

Object Literature

George II period furniture is highly prized. The George II period saw the introduction of mahogany as a favoured wood for fashionable furniture. The earliest mahogany furniture has a remarkably straight grain and masculine proportions.

An elegant treat and truly one for those who know their furniture.

Object Condition

The table has a superb colour, and in the main is in tact. There is one corner of loss to the top as photographed with a small crack to the rear, and some loss to one of the handles, which appear to be original. She has some iron brackets to the underside to reinforce the joints. As a whole she could be restored in some areas but can be used as is quite happily.
