Object Description

A tall, slender oviform Satsuma vase by Ryozan, (for the Yasuda Company) and with two main scenes one slightly larger than the other. The smaller depicting a flock of red crowned cranes feeding at the foot of Mt Fuji while three more Cranes fly above the mountain in the distance. On the main panel, a local community has gathered to partake in a Kite festival on the banks of a Lake. Scores of men, women and children are tending to their vibrantly decorated Kites all beautifully decorated with floral and geometric motifs.

Signed Ryozan to the underside, also with the mark of the Yasuda Company and the Shimazu crest.
