Object Description

From our collection of Japanese lacquerware of the late 19th Century, this beautiful Yusurutsuki no dai table. Not made for export, this was produced by the finest Japanese craftspeople to be used for ceremonial purposes in Japan. These stands were originally made to hold sacred rice cooking water during the ascension ceremony of the Emperor. Later they were adapted for other ceremonies. This example is decorated with fine detailed leaves and Mon depicting rice flowers.
