Object Description
Constructed in mahogany, rising from castor shod scrolled toe cabriole legs to the front and rear, the knees carved with addorsed ‘C’ scrolls, dressed with pendant foliates; the seat frame channelled and moulded, of exuberant serpentine form: the front rail having a scallop shell to the centre, issuing richly carved foliates; the seat upholstered, and it’s padded swept arms conjoining the shaped balloon back, the serpentine toprail bearing a carved Ducal Crown, the coat of arms below, and the Latin motto, ‘Malo Mori Quam Foederi’ – ‘Death Before Dishonour’, carved on a ribband.
