Object Description

A Fine Louis XVI Style Gilt-Bronze Mounted and Parquetry Inlaid Centre Table, By François Linke.

Signed ‘F. Linke’ to the bronze rim.
Stamped ‘FL’ to the reverse of the bronze mounts.

This fine oval centre table has a parquetry inlaid top above a conforming frieze with fruited vines and acanthus centered on each side with a rectangular plaque emblematic of the Arts and Sciences, the front set with a long drawer; the table is raised on four cabriole legs headed by ram masks and terminating in acanthus cast paw sabots.

Object History

François Linke (1855 – 1946) was the most important Parisian cabinet maker of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, and possibly the most sought after cabinet maker of his period.
