Object Description

A Fine Louis XVI Style Gilt-Bronze Mounted Mahogany and Amboyna Vitrine Cabinet-On-Stand, Attributed to Henry Dasson.

This fine vitrine cabinet has an upper section with a shaped rectangular brocatelle jaune d’Espagne marble top, above an egg and dart border and a frieze finely mounted with trumpet playing cherubs, below is a glazed door finely framed with gilt-bronze borders opening to a mirrored interior fitted with shelves, framed by gilt-bronze cast baluster columns. The lower table section with a single drawer raised on tapering legs united by a shaped under tier and toupie feet.

Stamped to the carcass ‘Renault Et Cie’.

This vitrine is stamped ‘Renault Et Cie’ which is an undocumented maker and might refer to a retailer. The Louis XVI design of this vitrine and the high quality of cabinetmaking it exhibits, makes for an attribution to the workshops of Henry Dasson.
