Object Description
A Fine Pair of Regency Mahogany Side Cabinets by Gillows, c.1815, This fine pair of mahogany side cabinets have all of the fine qualities associated with Gillows furniture of this period and so it is no surprise at all to find the Gillows stamp on one of the pieces, indicating that they were manufactured by the firm. Of broadly rectangular outline with overhanging mahogany tops, the cabinets have beautifully carved rosettes or floral paterae on an otherwise plain mahogany frieze. Below the frieze is a band of applied reel moulding, supported to each side by beautifully carved corbels with leaf carved detailing. The corbels sit atop two fluted pilasters which flank a pair of grass grille doors, lined with silk. The base moulding on the cabinets is of the trademark Gillows half round beaded pattern and the reeded bun feet are also a model which is strongly associated with the firm and its production during this period.
The cabinets have acquired a fine colour and surface and survive in excellent condition. Pairs of side cabinets of this sort are always sought-after as they are so useful in the modern interior and could be used in a variety of rooms and settings.
These lovely pieces are of excellent quality and have great aesthetic appeal. As such we are delighted to be able to offer them to our clients.
