Object Description

The provincially made French pine carcass showing the wonderful original peacock blue and ivory white paint layers, worn thoroughly and consistently with age, with the top with five planks with remnants of the peacock blue paint, over a frieze drawer with original cup handles, opening to reveal a vacant interior, the whole raised on tapering block legs with remnants of both coloured craquelured paints, and surviving from the late nineteenth century.

Object History

Unknown.

Object Literature

A very evocative, versatile and decorative table that could be used for occasional dining, as a hall or side table or desk.

Object Condition

The rustic and provincially made carcass has a wonderful patina to its paint, with a host of character and craquelure commensurate with its age and heavy use. The cup handles are original and there have been no additions to the piece since its creation. There is some gaps to the top between some of the planks, and wear and tear that one would expect to see. Overall it could be used as is and enjoyed as a beautiful decorative piece.
