Object Description

A George III mahogany serpentine chest of drawers, with three long graduated drawers flanked by canted and line-inlaid corners with octagonal brass handles, raised on conforming square tapering legs and spade feet. English, circa 1780.

Footnote: Eustace Hubert Beilby Gibbs, 3rd Baron Wraxall, KCVO, CMG (1929 – 2017) attended Eton College and Christ Church, Oxford. One of the highlights of his diplomatic career was his posting to Paris in 1977 as British Consul General. He was appointed Companion to the Order of St Michael and St George in 1982 and Knight Commander to the Royal Victorian Order in 1986. The National Trust now owns his family’s former seat at Tyntesfield near Wraxall, Bristol.
