Object Description

The good quality country house open elbow chair with a well patinated oak carcass, the shaped spindle splat back with beautifully swept serpentine arms above a silk striped drop in seat with powder blue velvet squab, on square chamfered legs united by an h-stretcher, the whole surviving from George III period England.

Object History

Unknown.

Object Literature

Couldn’t be more English country house, this, a real un-meddled with classic.

Object Condition

In very original condition, and with an excellent rich colour, the chair is stable with some movement to the arms but not excessively. The upholstery is worn and partially stained as pictured, and we think, fabulously evocative, but could re-upholstered if so desired. There are two replacement rails underneath the drop in seat.
