Object Description

The George III period bleached oak carcass of large proportions having a typical Georgian arrangement of two short drawers over three long, with the original brass drop handles and escutcheons to each, the whole sitting on bracket feet and displaying a genuine dry bleached oak finish.

Object History

Unknown.

Object Literature

This chest has that enviable natural bleaching which is impossible to fake and means it can sit happily in a traditional or more modern setting; the colour here is key and the price very buyable.

Object Condition

The condition is lived in and sound. The drawers glide smoothly, the whole proves sturdy and in good original order. The dry texture attractive and all natural with a dry surface and richness of colour through the passing of time. The bracket feet are all original. There are two sections to the front that have been replaced as photographed and one small area of moulding lacking to the front lower left section. The handles are possible original, the escutcheons probably later.
