Object Description

A wonderful gin decanter of unusual form with fine gilt decoration, the rings simulating a barrel.

Retaining its original stopper also with gilt decoration.

In excellent condition with some wear to the gilding on the stopper.

Object Literature

Hollands is a term for a variety of gin originally made in the Netherlands. It is of a slightly higher strength than British and American gin, and also has a more pronounced flavour, so it tends to be drunk neat rather than serving as the basis for cocktails and mixed drinks. The word came into use in English during the great age of gin-drinking, the eighteenth century.
