A Small Gilt-Bronze Mounted Louis XVI Style Mahogany Commode With a Grey Marble Top.
French, Circa 1880.
This fine commode has a shaped grey marble top with canted corners, above a frieze with a gilt-bronze guilloche and flower-head border. Below are two drawers with gilt-bronze handles. The corners of the commode are adorned with gilt-bronze mounts of ribbon tied garlands of roses. The commode is supported on tapering square section legs.
The rich mahogany wood used in this commode provides a wonderful contrast with the fine gilt-bronze mounts.
