Object Description

The crisply carved stone Corinthian capital with carved acanthus leaf decoration, central flower heads and lower collar to a vacant insert top, probably once for a sundial, and surviving in the classical taste from the early part of the twentieth century.

Object History

Unknown.

Object Literature

A Corinthian capital in architectural terms is the top part of a column characterised by large acanthus leaves and fluted columns, as we see here. We suspect this may once have been part of a column and sundial combination.

A good quality example that is perfect for inside or out, for that urn of flowers or that bust.

Object Condition

The capital is presented in good original condition with no losses to speak of. It is obviously of a heavy weight.
