Object Description

This set of Bois Durci portrait roundels consists of a variety of profile portraits, some in gilt-metal frames, and a larger roundel of a lady playing the organ set within a laurel frame. Attributed to Francois Lepage, the creator of this material, these intricate and skilfully crafted object bear the likenesses of figures such as William Tell, Lord Byron, Prince Albert and Queen Victoria, and Pope Pius IX. The large roundel is 23cm, the others 11.5. Provenance: Christie’s, London, South Kensington, 26 October 2016, The Hone Collection.
