Object Description

The double sided hand painted fairground sign designed to draw in the crowds at fairgrounds in the mid-twentieth century, with ‘Try Your Skill’ to one side and “4 Balls 2 D” to the other, on a cream ground with ruby red sign written script.

Object History

Unknown.

Object Literature

The wording suggests this sign was advertising for a ball toss stall such as ball bucket or ball in the mouth. Two pence for a go.

A decorative gem encompassing all the fun of the fair with particularly nice sign written script.

Object Condition

Suspended from two corner holes, the panel has a small amount of paint flaking to several areas and scuffs commensurate with age (it was of course part of a travelling troupe) but structurally it is sound.
