A Japanese lacquered wooden desk,early 20th century, the superstructure with a raised back carved in the form of Mount Fiji, above various drawers, cupboards and pigeonholes with an anthropomorphic tiger support in the form of an Oni. (The Oni are demonic creatures in Japanese folklore that are often depicted as giant, ogre-like, and frightening. They are a type of yōkai, which is a term for otherworldly monsters, gods, ghosts, goblins, and spirits).
