Object Description

From our collection of Japanese metalwork of the Meiji-era (1868-1912) this Bronze vase with multi-patination decoration depicting a Sparrow standing on the leaf of a flowering Chrysanthemum.

The blooms of the Chrysanthemum in a rich Gold patination contrasting pleasingly with the chocolate brown patina of the foliage, the black and brown of the bird and the marbled brown Bronze of the body of the vase.

The flared, decagonal shape of the vase with a bottle-form neck and leading down to a bulbous body with a tapered, circular foot.
